Does Term Life Insurance Vary From One State To Another In The United States Of America?

When an individual sits to plan for his future or that of his family and children, there shouldn’t be any reason to look at his insurance policies. Though this is the commencing sentence of this article, it may seem a little more than confusing to a lot of the readers without a doubt. Well we say so because most of the times it is a term life insurance policy that people buy and this is a policy which is taken for a particular and stipulated period of time. Moreover, there is only a single pay out in this policy and that is paid out only if the insured person expires within the period of the insurance coverage.

Term Life Insurance is considered to be an immensely significant insurance for the young population who often has families, children and even mortgages to take care of. Term insurance is a lot more affordable when compared to the whole life insurances because the later is exactly what it sounds and hence is priced in a similar way as well. The whole life insurance actually extends for an entire life time of the insured individual whereas the coverage in the term life insurance lasts only for a particular term in our life. This term generally varies from 10 years to 30 years in variables. The premium that is paid for this particular policy is on the basis of the probability of the insured person and the chances of him dying within the period of the insurance.

When considering buying a term insurance there are a number of factors that the customers need to consider in the first place. Of the primary factors in this context is how the terms of this insurance policy varies from one state to another within the US. Most of the rules and regulations in case of life insurance are formulated by the federal government. However, there may be a few differences lying here are there and it is necessary to have an ideas of them. A couple of years back a person would call up his or her insurance agent in order to gain a quote for their term insurance. But as shopping policies online has gathered a lot of popularity in the present era when people have become a lot more cautious about the ways in which they can safeguard their properties. But even when one settles for a policy online it is absolutely necessary to ensure that the company is licensed suitably withi
n a particular US state, preferably your state.

Most of the differences that lay between the term insurance policies of different US states is a mere matter of a minus or a plus in the period of the coverage. Meaning, a company in a particular state may have a certain amount of time to settle a policy prior to paying the interest. For term insurance most of states need a minimum processing period of 1 month after the completion of the paperwork. On the other hand some of the states may have a two months time period before an insurance carrier is entitled to penalty.

The term life insurance plan is the convertible term insurance. The policy holder can change his term insurance policy into the annual renewable, renewable, level premium or decreasing term insurance plan. As the risk involved in this policy is more, the cost of this policy is also on the higher side.
Obama's new term: 'Insurance reform' – Yahoo! News

If you haven’t been paying attention, you might have missed it. But with the substitution of one word, President Barack Obama was able to redirect his health care message from uninsured Americans to those who already have insurance.

In his Wednesday night address, Obama talked about “health insurance reform” a noticeable shift from the “health care reform” he had been talking up until late last week.

With support for reform softening, Obama attempted to move the conversation away from the talk of taxes, public plans and the other divisive issues dominating Congress and the headlines back to how his reforms would help the 160 million Americans who already have insurance. The pivot was an attempt to reframe the bill as something that directly benefits most Americans, instead of a subsidy for the uninsured.

“I realize that with all the charges and criticisms being thrown around in Washington, many Americans may be wondering, ‘What’s in this for me? How does my family stand to benefit from health insurance reform?’” Obama asked. “This is not just about the 47 million Americans who have no health insurance. Reform is about every American who has ever feared that they may lose their coverage if they become too sick, or lose their job, or change their job.”

Obama used the term 'health insurance reform” in his Saturday radio address and repeated it again on Monday when he jabbed the insurance industry, saying: “Even as America's families have been battered by spiraling health care costs, health insurance companies and their executives have reaped windfall profits from a broken system.”

Linda Douglass, a spokeswoman for the White House Office of Health Reform, explained the shift saying, “Much of health reform is health insurance reform: getting rid of pre-existing conditions, discrimination based on age or gender, rescissions, in which insurance companies suddenly withdraw coverage when you get sick.”

But the term also has distinctive political advantages. Insurance reform, insiders say, likely polls better than a more general reform message because it targets something voters know, understand and don’t particularly like. And, it has the added bonus of setting up the insurance industry as a political punching bag.

‘I think they’re pivoting because they’re looking at cratering poll numbers that people are seriously concerned about too much government, too much spending and turning health care over to Washington. And they’re trying to change that story and looking for a boogeyman,” said a health care insider. “People aren’t buying what they’re selling so they’re trying to change the subject.”

Emphasizing insurance reform also allows Obama to begin highlighting insurance market changes as a principal part of reform, and not as an also-ran to its glitzier partner, the government-run health insurance option.

“If Obama’s unable to reach a consensus, a bipartisan package on a public plan and financing, then this may be opening the door to a fallback position of insurance market reform,” said health care consultant Phil Blando. “That may be wishful thinking on my part, but it’s possible.”

Perhaps a bit ironically, Obama’s recent message dovetails with the industry. America’s Health Insurance Plans began airing a national television ad this week that promotes providing affordable coverage for everybody that doesn't deny insurance to those with pre-existing health conditions.

“We agree that health insurance reform is a critical part of health care reform and health insurance reform means getting everyone in, making sure that pre-existing conditions are a thing of the past and that people have a guaranteed source of affordable coverage,” said AHIP spokesman Mike Tuffin.

Life Insurance Basics You Should Know

It is important to understand some life insurance basics before committing to a particular policy. We work hard to take care of our families and our goal is to protect those who depend on us. But, unfortunately, many of us are unaware of how significant life insurance could be in the future well being of those we love.

1.Wants vs needs. When deciding how much or what type of life insurance to buy, a common strategy is to buy based on “needs”. While it is important to condsider the needs of the dependents left behind, basing your purchase on needs is limiting. If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, how much life insurance would you want? I’m confident you would answer, “As much as I can get.” This stems from the desire to insure for the total value of your life instead of just meeting the basic needs of your loved ones. When we insure our homes and cars, we don’t insure for half the value because that would meet our needs. We insure for the maximum value because that is what we want. We want to replace the total value of the life lost. Keep this in mind when making life insurance decisions and make your choice based on wants rather than needs alone.

2.Know the terms. When shopping for life insurance, you will encounter a unique language with jargon that can often be confusing. Taking a little time to understand the terms will help you make a more informed and educated decision.

Perhaps the most important distinction you will need to know is the difference between term life and whole life insurance.

Term Life Insurance: Basically, as implied by the title ‘term life insurance’, you are covered for a limited period of time, specified by the policy. If you die with the policy in place, the insurance company will pay the agreed upon amount to your beneficiaries. However, if you live beyond the deadline, the term will expire and the coverage will cease. Term insurance is a popular choice because premiums are cheaper than with other options, at least in the beginning. However, it is important to remember that since premiums are based on age and health, insurance cos
1000
ts will increase when it comes time to renew or purchase new coverage. If you are young and healthy, your premium may be quite low, making term insurance attractive. At an average 1% pay claim, companies are able to keep rates reasonable because they know that the term will likely expire before a payout is required. Term life insurance provides no living benefits to the policyholder and is only paid upon death. We often call it “death” insurance.

Whole Life Insurance: Also known as cash value insurance or permanent insurance, this type combines the death benefit with an investment component so that you are able to build up cash value for your entire life. Basically, the policy outlines a fixed amount that is to be paid upon your death, but part of the premium is also invested by the company providing a cash value. The policy owner can borrow against the cash value without being taxed. Although whole life insurance premiums are higher, there is no renewal period and the premiums will never increase regardless of age or health issues. The coverage is in effect for your entire life rather than just a specified period of time. In contrast to term insurance, which has an approximate 1% pay claim, whole life insurance is guaranteed to be paid out since it does not expire. And, since it has living benefits, the policy holder can enjoy all of their investment while they are still alive.

3.Seek expert advice. Since life insurance can be complicated and confusing, it is important that you consult with an expert or insurance agent that is willing to spend some time explaining the various options. Make sure that your representative understands your goals and clearly outlines the provisions of each policy. Remember that most insurance agents are paid according to their sales, so you need to be careful that you are not pressured into a decision that you do not feel comfortable making. Find someone who will outline all the details and thoroughly explain all the conditions and provisions of the policy.

4.Shop around. There are many different policies available, and choosing the one that is best for your situation will depend on your needs and goals. Also, the cost differences between companies will vary, even for the exact same coverage. Taking the time to gather several quotes could save you a lot of money. Most insurance agents will try to find you the best deal possible, but this is not always guaranteed, so it is important to make sure that they work on your behalf to secure the best coverage and premiums possible.

Knowing life insurance basics and following a few simple tips will help you find the coverage you want so you can relax, knowing that you have taken every step possible to provide for and protect your family. It is important to understand some life insurance basics before committing to a particular policy. We work hard to take care of our families and our goal is to protect those who depend on us. But, unfortunately, many of us are unaware of how significant life insurance could be in the future well being of those we love.

NZ insurance seekers outraged after companies quiz them over sex lives – Yahoo! India News

Auckland, Apr. 3 (ANI): People seeking life insurance in New Zealand are outraged after being asked by insurance companies if they have sex with prostitutes.

The country's Privacy Commission has raised concerns over the issue, saying felt they had been asked intrusive or irrelevant questions could complain to the commissioner.

“Questions asked by life insurance companies should not be unreasonably intrusive and must be directly relevant to assessing risk,” the New Zealand Herald quoted Assistant Privacy Commissioner Katrine Evans, as saying.

Companies which ask about their clients' sexual behaviour with prostitutes, include BNZ bank and AMP insurance. Those which don't include Westpac, Kiwibank and AA Life.

AMP chief underwriter Geoff Dyer said: “We ask this question as people who are in what is considered “at risk” sexual practices are at greater risk of acquiring HIV/AIDS than those that aren't.”

Other commonly asked life insurance questions include whether a person has ever had a sexually transmitted disease, raised cholesterol or a bowel polyp or has ever attempted suicide.

Investment Savings and Insurance Association CEO Vance Arkinstall said: “Some companies will have different views, but there are concerns over sexual preferences of people from time to time and it's born out of the risk of Aids and those sorts of issues.”

“Some people do find the questions difficult to answer and in that situation, if you're uncomfortable, well, there are a lot of insurers – go and try another one,” he said.

However, Evans said that companies should carefully justify the relevance of including intruding questions in their questionnaire.

“Some illnesses can have a significant impact on whether a person is insurable, or at what premium. It's not immediately obvious, though, that the nature of sexual partners or activities is relevant. Insurers would have to be able to justify this very carefully,” she added. (ANI)

Meg

Amarillo TX

If you are looking for a low rate life insurance, you can choose from the different types of term-life insurance. Unlike permanent life insurance, term life insurance policy is more affordable and provides protection up to a certain period of time.

The most commonly known type term life insurance is the increasing premium term life insurance policy. This is also called the yearly renewable term life insurance policy because the premium increases each year as long as the insured still owns the policy. Unlike other life insurance policy, increasing premium term life has a very low initial premium. This type is recommended for a short-term need. Another low rate life insurance is the decreasing term life insurance. This type, which has a decreasing face value, is usually used to pay-off mortgage in case the homeowner dies. Another type is the level term life insurance where the policy duration can be bought for a certain period where the maximum is 30 years. This is still considered as low rate life insurance policy although the cost is more than the two other types mentioned. The premiums and the death benefits remain level for the entire period. Universal life insurance has a level death benefit and premiums. You can actually choose to increase or decrease the amount in your savings or life insurance if you want to.

Is Term Life Insurance policy a good policy to have?

Kay

Amarillo, Texas

Excellent Question Kay,

Those who buy term life insurance do so because it is a limited expense policy that insures the policy holder for a specific period of time. If the person who holds the policy should pass away during that period of time then the company pays out the death benefit of the policy. The average time period that a policy is taken out for is a year. If the insured person is still alive after the period then they can then buy another one year policy.

This is not the best deal for the person looking for a good policy. If they should become ill during the year with something serious, something terminal, then they will be considered uninsurable. Each year the potential policy holder must pass a medical exam. This means that the person who is ill would be unable to be insured again and so would be left with no death benefits for their family. Therefore, this term life insurance is not the best option.

A better option would be to buy annual renewable term life insurance. This type of policy can be started at any point in time as long as the policy holder passes the medical exam. The term for these policies is usually anywhere from ten to thirty years. The policy holder pays once a year and as the person gets older the cost of the premiums will increase.

The advantage to this type of insurance is that there is more chance that the policy holder will get benefit from a long term policy and so the death benefits will be paid to the family of the insured person. If the person becomes ill during the coverage period the insurance company cannot do anything to terminate this type of policy. With some companies this can go on until the policy holder is ninety five, but not with all companies.
